Description: The University of Arizona Russian Abroad programs are an outreach effort of the Department of Russian and Slavic Languages of the University of Arizona, which accepts students of Russian at all levels of instruction. The thousands of program alumni come from over 110 colleges and universities throughout the U.S., Canada, and Europe. Initially, the programs began with summer travel and have expanded to the current 7 program options per year, which include summer, semester, and academic year language programs. The programs are directed by Professor Del Phillips, University Distinguished Professor and veteran of over 30 years of experience leading student groups to Russia.

Language Programs in St. Petersburg and Moscow:

The University of Arizona Russian Abroad study abroad program offerings are acknowledged as one of the premiere Russian language training programs. The program offers a full battery of courses, lectures, and excursions that provide participants with invaluable training and experience. A carefully planned curriculum includes intensive small group instruction as well as individual tutorials. Courses range from Russian grammar, conversation and phonetics to literature, newspaper reading, composition, and business Russian. The curriculum centers upon training students to receive official proficiency ratings from the government of the Russian Federation.

Business Internship Programs in Moscow:

The UA Russian Abroad Business Internship programs in Moscow allow students to study Russian for the purpose of business communication and to utilize this knowledge directly on the job by working as an intern in companies in Moscow. High Russian language skills are extremely helpful in obtaining better internships. Students can take Russian language classes while also participating in the internship.

Highlights: Program Housing:

Participants in the Moscow programs may choose to live in dormitory housing on the beautiful campus of the GRINT Language Center of the Moscow Academy of the Humanities and Social Sciences (the "Academy") or in a home stay located usually within walking distance of the Academy. Our St. Petersburg language group lives in the dormitory for foreign students at St. Petersburg State University, which is located on Vasilevsky Island on the shore of the Gulf of Finland, or in a home stay. The home stays provide a private room for each student in a typical family, anything from families with children to grandmothers alone, where the friendly atmosphere allows our students to use their Russian in a relaxed and natural way.

Excursions:

Each options include regular (usually weekly) excursions, which introduce students to the historic, political, and cultural highlights of Russia.
