Description:
The Brockport China: Three Cities Program is a partnership between Brockport and EducAsian, who has been operating programs in China for more than 10 years. The program is carefully designed to provide participants with a perspective of China through experiencing three cities and three Universities. Participants will take classes in language, culture, politics, business and history at Beijing University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, and The University of Hong Kong. Beijing University (commonly called Bei Da), established in 1898, is by far the most well respected and prestegious university in China. Located in the heart of Beijing's Haidian district on a beautiful park like campus filled with traditional style Chinese architecture. The University has 14 colleges and 17 departments with 86 undergraduate programs. There are 13,164 undergraduates, and an additional 10,000 or so graduate and doctoral students. Shanghai Jiaotong is another of China's Key Universities, directly under the State Education Ministry. It has a history dating back to 1896, and is the alma mater of such distinguished graduates as Jiang Ze Ming, current premier of China. The park like campus is situated in the heart of Shanghai with convenient access to shopping, restaurants and the subway. With a total enrollment of 14,000 students and 200 international students, this is one of Shanghai's two most respected universities. The University of Hong Kong is the oldest tertiary education institution in Hong Kong. Its roots go back to 1887 when the College of Medicine was established. In 1911 the University of Hong Kong was formally founded. The University serves the needs of Hong Kong and mainland China by drawing on the great cultural traditions of China and the West. The University has a student population of about 14,000 and over 900 academic staff. It is one of the top Asia universities in the region and is held in high academic regard and maintains an international reputation for excellence in a wide range of areas.

The Brockport China Program offers you the opportunity to: * Live and study in three distinctly different cities and top institutions in China (Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong), * Improve your understanding of Chinese Language, Culture, History, and Business, * Study Chinese language at any level of proficiency, * Receive instruction in courses specifically designed for program participants in English, * Be privately tutored in Chinese Language outside of regular instruction, * Particpate in a seven week business internship in Beijing in place of seven weeks of coursework in Shanghai. Your experience in China will: * Introduce you to Chinese culture and educational system, * Foster development of a deeper understanding of yourself and China, * Change and expand your view of yourself and the world. In China you will: * Live in hotels or on campus housing with modern facilities (internet, some ensuite bathrooms), * Have access to EducAsian lounge (internet, TV, DVD, CD, Pool table, etc...), * Enjoy daily room and linen cleaning, * Receive comprehensive orientation from Resident Director and Chinese staff upon arrival, * Enjoy an extensive program of field trips and excursions, * Have numerous and continual opportunities to interact with local Chinese.
Qualifications:
* A prospective participant should have: Junior or senior standing by the start of the program. * A cumulative GPA of 2.75 (on a 4.0 scale). * A GPA of 3.00 in an appropriate major. * The demonstrated ability to do upper-division work. While there is no Chinese Language requirement for admission to the Brockport EducAsian "China -Three Cities" Program some familiarity with spoken Chinese is definitely a plus. Application Deadlines: * For the Fall Semester: 1 June * For the Spring Semester: 15 December Calendar: The Brockport EducAsian "China - Three Cities" Program is offered twice each year, one in the spring and one in the fall. The Spring semester generally begins the second week in March and concludes in late June. The Fall semester begins the second of September and ends in late December before Christmas.

In Shanghai: People's Square, The Bund, Jade Buddha Temple, Yu Yuan Bazaar, Museum of Chinese History and a Tour of the Pudong New Investment Zone.
