Bridges to China
China
Term: Academic Year, Fall, Spring, Summer, Throughout the year, Winter
Dates: Any
Description:
Bridges to China provides international students with the opportunity to study Wushu, Taiji, and/or Mandarin Chinese at their choice of two of the most renowned sports universities in China. Students will live and train alongside some of the top Wushu athletes in the world, as well as have the opportunity to take Mandarin Chinese classes. Bridges to China has connections to both the Capital College of Physical Education and the Beijing Sports University, as well as the Beijing Culture and Language University for students interested in full time language study. We will arrange for program participants to live in the foreign student dormitories, where they will be surrounded by Wushu students from around the globe. These dormitories are also surrounded by the Chinese student dormitories, and allow participants to meet language/activity partners. Wushu students will train 5 days a week, up to 5 hours a day (including optional after-class electives and supervised training times). A choice of styles and disciplines are offered, ranging from traditional Longfist (Changquan) to Taiji and Sanda (Chinese kickboxing). Several mornings and afternoons a week, electives are offered which cover some of the more esoteric styles, such as Tongbiquan, Tanglang (Praying Mantis), and Baguazhang. Bridges to China offers a wide array of programs designed to suit individual student needs and goals, and students can opt to focus full time on either Wushu or Mandarin Chinese studies, or elect for a program that combines both.
