International House - Portland's Mission Statement: International House believes in creating a better world through shared language and communication. We believe in providing quality training by certified teachers who each bring a unique and special gift to the language classroom. We believe that each course and each class should be planned around what we know about the learners, what will be possible to achieve, how best a lesson can be learned, and what is most important to teach, knowing that language is a mixture of many things (instinct, skill, content, cultural artifact, music) that constantly change, requiring that we teach language in many different ways. Our teaching reflects this philosophy, and we hope that, by instilling in learners a love for language, they will continue with their language learning long after their courses have ended.
