VENUSA College - One on One Spanish Immersion Program
Venezuela
Term: Throughout the year
Dates: Programs offered throughout the year / Flexible
Description:
Total immersion 20 hours per week means that the student is communicating directly in Spanish from the first hour of class. Immersion is both the most challenging and most rewarding way to learn to speak a new language because students avoid the linguistic shifting back and forth inherent in translation. Best of all, students learn within a cultural context-students reinforce their lessons by putting what they learn into immediate practice in their everyday lives.
Highlights:
Flexibility is paramount. Students and teachers work one on one, allowing each student to work at his or her own pace and level. On the first day of class, the teacher will give an exam to the student to determine strengths and weaknesses and to help determine which book and method to follow. Teachers help the student focus on their specific language skills and needs in oral comprehension, reading, writing, speaking, etc. Each student's course is designed to give students ample opportunity to practice and improve grammar and vocabulary. Course work focuses on practical, real life situations and whenever possible the city is used as a learning laboratory. Depending on each participant's interest and level of Spanish, assignments might include reading a local newspaper, listening to the news on radio or television or even accompanying the teacher to the market or main town square, museums and other places.

VEN-USA International Studies & Modern Languages - Merida, Venezuela's Mission Statement: VENUSA was founded in 1987 by individuals who felt that a greater contact and understanding was necessary between North and South America. At its inception, VENUSA was established as a private institute dedicated to international studies and modern languages, and over the years has grown to satisfy a wide variety of interests.
VENUSA is located in the beautiful city of Mérida, nestled in the heart of the Venezuelan Andes. Though its student body has grown dramatically over the years, VENUSA's goal remains what it has always been: the promotion of greater international understanding through education, and the development of interpersonal relationships between its students, both Venezuelan and North American.
